anticipation

for me, this autumn brings more than just an anticipation of harvesting and crisp weather and holidays and falling leaves and first frost. i leave for asia next week and will be gone until february...

i feel the anticipation of that big unknown clenched inside me. nervous excitement. somehow that seems to make the known even dearer to me this season. pressing fallen leaves, sweaters worn all day long, hugging my brother, apple picking, misty mornings, leaf piles, sleeping outdoors, big mugs of hot tea...

  2. i go to north-eastern india next week and will be traveling with a doctor friend who, for the past 10 years, has taken annual medical trips over there. claire will be with us, and we will help where we can in the clinics and shelters.

i'll be there for about a month, and then fly over to thailand to first visit claire and the family she lives with, and then volunteer with a program in the northern city chiang mai for three months. i'll be helping to lead art workshops in various community centers, and i am very excited, but also, of course, quite nervous...
